3 Ways to speed up your internet.

As discussed in the previously the number one top tip to speed up an aging computer is to add extra memory.  However even brand new computers can suffer performance issues if you have a slow broadband connection. The average monthly charge is approximately £20 a month for a service which you may only be half receiving. Would you continue to pay the gas board if you only got warm water? Or the Hydro board if your lights were always dim? Here are the top three tips for increasing broadband speed.

1. Plug your router / ADSL modem into the master phone socket in your house. Do not run it off an extension socket or extension cable. If your master socket is in an awkward place, consider wirelessly networking your computer to the router.

2. Use micro-filters on all equipment plugged into telephone sockets in your house. This includes phones, faxes, sky box, and security alarms. Micro-filters filter the broadband data from the voice calls on a telephone line. If you don’t have them on all sockets you’ll find anytime the phone rings or a call is made your broadband will drop connection which will lowers your speed over time.

3. Remove the ring wire from your telephone wiring. The ring wire was used in old telephones, it made them ring. However this wire causes interference on a broadband telephone line and generally is not needed on modern phones. These tips are very common trouble shooting advice which any computer maintenance provider should be able to offer help with at a reasonable price.
