One of my bad habits when surfing the web is not surfing the web. Instead I’ve got 5 or 6 sites that I regularly go to and that’s it. I’m missing out on so much more but I can’t figure out what to use as keywords to search for interesting/useful/cool stuff. I don’t use the Internet to it’s full capacity. It’s a bit like reading the same 2 pages of a newspaper whilst not exploring the thing as a whole.
There is something that can help you break out of the rut though, StumbleUpon.
StumbleUpon is a tool bar that attaches itself to your Internet Explorer/Firefox browser.
It’s a bit like a bookmark utility. You find a site you like and then bookmark it so you can come back to it. However what makes it different is that you share the bookmark with everyone. When you sign-up to stubmleupon (free) it asks you what your interests are. I chose movies, film making, hacking, philosophy. When I click the stubmleupon button it takes me to a site that someone has bookmarked in that genre. There is also a rating system so if a site is useful/good the more people that review or give it the thumbs up the more likely you’ll stubmleupon it when you click the stumble button.
